Gold Hill, Shaftesbury - The Night
The Milky Way rises over Gold Hill, Shaftesbury - better known to many as the street from the Hovis ads. I knew that the street lights in this part of Dorset were set to go out at around 1 am so I left home at 11pm, parked at the bottom of Gold Hill at around 12.30, walked up the hill and set up and waited for the street lights to go off. 1.00 am came and went, then 5 past … 10 past with all the lights remaining stubbornly on. I was starting to wonder if they were ever going to go off when suddenly, one by one, they went out allowing a clear view of the Milky Way.
